This important information can save your cat’s life.
Dogs can benefit with proper use of therapeutic grade essential oils. Cats do not do well with essential oils. Here’s some helpful and important information to keep your cat healthy while you enjoy using essential oils:

Beware: Cat’s livers can’t tolerate essential oils and liver failure can occur with too much contact.

Only a very little amount of essential oil causes kitty health problems.

Problems can result when a feline fur kid breathes or licks essential oils.

Keep essential oils, diffusers, mists and potpourri in a place where your cat won’t curiously explore them. Most cats stay away from scents they instinctively know are wrong, but there are some scents that are bad for them as well as attractive to smell, so it’s better to be safely careful.

Use diffusers in rooms where your cat is less often present. If the cat gets in the room, leave a way open to another room or an open window for fresh air.

Use aroma mists in a room where your cat is not present.

If you use orange oil to clean your hardwood floors or other things, keep your cat out of the room until the surfaces being cleaned are completely dry.

Essential oil products shouldn’t be used close by kitties’ food bowls or litter boxes. (Interesting, there is or was a natural cat litter with some pine essential oil in the ingredients. Some cats used it, but for years, I heard about cats who wouldn’t use it)

If you use Roots Essential Everything Botanical Soap to wash kitty dishes, just rinse generously in hot water and air dry thoroughly before re-use.

Before you pet your cat, wash your hands if you recently used some essential oils. Petting a cat with even the tiniest amounts of leftover essential oils in the palm of our hands or fingers is mindless, we often don’t think about it. Remember: it only takes licking a small amount of essential oil off their fur to make cats deadly sick.
Some of the first symptoms you might notice: Shaky little tremors, wobbly walking, inability to walk and vomiting. If you notice anything like this, immediately move your cat to another room with fresh air. Consult your poison center or veterinarian.
The essential oils that are most harmful or corrosive to cats include: Bergamot, Birch, Any of the citrus Oils, Cinnamon, Clove, Lavender, Melaleuca (Tea Tree Oil) Oregano, Peppermint, Pine, Sage, and Spruce.
It may also be helpful to know other house pets that can be harmed by inhaling essential oils include birds, hamsters, gerbils and mice.
Some aromatherapists argue liver damage will not result if one uses 100% Pure Essential Oils. There is no solid proof of this. The potency of essential oil would make it stronger in its effect, not weaker. If the essential oil contains terpenes or phenols,100 percent pure therapeutic grade essential oils can be harmful and deadly to cats if it's ingested or inhaled.”
