Slime Time

Slime is disobedient 😊

Slime was invented by Mattel in 1976. Original slime is a unique chemical polymer also referred to as a Non-Newtonian fluid because it reacts to applied force and that disobeys Sir Isaac Newton’s rule for fluid.

So much for the nerdy info. The key information is: Children can play with slime without having to play with chemicals.

At least a dozen different ways to make homemade slime are all over the internet. Some of those involve chemicals too. One terribly unsafe recipe uses nail polish!

You may have a favorite slime recipe already.

We consider a somewhat healthier slime recipe:

Begin with about ¼ Cup white glue (If you know how to make homemade glue, that’s the best!)

Stir in food coloring to get the color you want. If it comes out too dark, add some more glue to make it lighter.

To avoid having such a gluey smell, add just a drop or 2 of Pure Essential Oil. Avoid Peppermint, for younger children and those with sensitive skin.

If you use glitter, this is the step when you should add it into the mixture.

When you have the color you want, slowly stir in about twice as much corn starch as there is glue until you achieve the slimy consistency you desire.

Caution:

  • Children under 5 should be carefully supervised.

  • Make sure glitter & Essential oils don't get rubbed into eyes

  • Food coloring may stain fabric

Happy Sliming
