How Do You Hygge?

How Do You Hygge?

Hygge (pronounced "hoo-ga") is a Danish and Norwegian word that has recently become a buzzword in the United States. The dictionary defines it as "a concept, originating in Denmark, of creating cozy and convivial atmospheres that promote well-being."

But at its core, hygge is all about enjoying the simple things in life and savoring the present moment. It's about creating a sense of warmth and coziness, both physically and emotionally. The origins of hygge can be traced back to the harsh winters of Denmark and Norway, where people have always sought ways to make their homes warm and inviting.

Hygge has been a part of the Danish and Norwegian culture for centuries, but it wasn't until recently that the concept was introduced to the rest of the world. In 2016, the book "The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living" by Meik Wiking, CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen, was published, and suddenly everyone was talking about hygge.

As a wellness enthusiast it seems I might almost be remiss not to touch on 'hygge' in our blog spot. It has certainly caught my imagination. I was born and raised in the Philippines, so the weather that seems to inspire talk of hygge was not what I grew up with. But celebrating the simple things in life and savoring the present moment is a universal theme and something that I appreciate and try to do each day. So, right in the title of this post, I ask a question: How do you hygge? We hope you have a chance to ponder that, today.

Here is a photo of my hygge moment which includes a special book and a piece of incense from one of our soon-to-come home fragrance products.
